Understanding the difference between fashion and style.

When I set out to create this blog, I started by considering what I wanted it to be, a “fashion” blog or a “style” blog. But in order to make this decision, I had to really think about the nuances between what is fashion and what is style.

I myself have had a long love affair with fashion, studying magazines, catalogs and other bloggers for as long as I can remember. But I think fashion is about the clothes, or in other words it is about what is on the outside. When you look at the photos you see in magazines or in ads, you remember what you liked about the “clothes” you don’t really remember the person wearing the clothes.

But when you think of style, and consider some of the most famous style icons (Audrey Hepburn, Beyoncé, Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Aniston, Grace Kelly), you remember the person wearing the clothes – and yes style encompasses how you, pull the pieces together to create the look, but more importantly it’s about you and what you project, whether it’s confidence, artistic, intelligence, fun, seriousness, playfulness, professionalism or whatever you want it to be. And that is what makes a look memorable and what I want this blog to be about, the looks that celebrate how we feel.

Remember the line, “are you wearing the clothes? or are the clothes wearing you?” Style is as much about how you feel in the clothes and thus how you carry yourself vs. the items themselves. So as you explore, experiment and consider your look, remember to consider if the outfit makes you feel good?

Because more often than not, when you feel good, you look good.

Then on those occasions, when you feel good about your look, snap some pictures to share and let me know what you would like to say and send me an email at: share-my-style@sharing-style.com

Today I feel, “stylish.”
