The Art of Styling with Scarves

Maybe it’s the artist in me, but I have always been drawn to a colorful scarf. With a simple twist or knot you can go from a relatively plain look to something with a little finesse. I love scarves so much that it is the one thing that I almost always purchase when I travel someplace interesting. After all, why not? It is the easiest thing to pack and you can wear a good scarf with almost any plain t-shirt short or long sleeves.

Square Scarves

This blue silk is one of those fantastic vacation finds… I love the colors and the tassels that are attached to each corner.

This 3 color square offers variety based on which corners is tied off.

This fun square is extra large, which works great for draping and wearing untied.

Rectangles

I found this play on the British flag on a vacation in Colorado. I love that is is a light cashmere – makes it great for flying.

I’ve always been a sucker for polka dots!

This extra long rectangle works great for breaking up this solid color sweater dress without disrupting the lines with too much color.

This skinny rectangle works great as a belt too!

This large square is actually a world map. I love the subtlety of color.

The simple addition of a black and white scarf to an otherwise solid black sweater serves to brighten up my face.

This is another look with my world map scarf.

I love the variety of scarves. Here you can see some of my favorite square and rectangle varieties and how I like to wear them.

I picked this extra long/wide cashmere blanket scarf when I was in the mountains for parents’ weekend. When it opened up it says, “love” … how could you go wrong with that?
