What’s Your Shopping Philosophy?

Basically, there are two (well three) types of people: 1) Those who do NOT like to shop 2) Those who do LIKE to shop and 3) Those who LIKE TO shop, but are TOO BUSY to shop. Which camp do you fall into?

Regardless, of which camp you fall into, I am here to help reveal some of my personal tips to making your next shopping excursion a little bit easier.

1) Identify your favorite brands.  This is as simple as going into your closet and looking at the labels of your favorite jeans, pants, sweaters, shirts and shoes.  These are some of your favorite brands. 2) Next, look at the sizes.  How does this brand fit you?  What do you like about the piece. Do you have any other items that are the same brands? 3) Make notes.  Which stores carry these brands? Can you find them online? 4) Sign-up for the emails.  5) And watch… do you see something you like? Is it on sale?  Do they have a loyalty or rewards program?  6) Sign-up. Earn points – get notified of new items and deals.

And if you have a favorite or a couple of favorite stores – get to know the people that work there. Ask them about brands and fits, let them know what you like. These people are great resources and can help you when you are there, notify when something comes in and even put your size aside for you.

To Buy or Not to Buy?

My own personal rule, when I am on the fence is, am I going to regret not purchasing the piece after I’ve slept on it.  Consider this seriously.  Do you have a) an occasion to wear the item in mind? OR can you imagine AT LEAST three distinct outfits to build around the item.  And finally, do you have anything remotely similar?  (Now there are going to be occasions to buy a really good shirt in multiple colors, but generally speaking, the question at hand when you are on the fence, is do you already have a good substitution?  If the answer is yes, and you are already on the fence, walk away.
